THE CHURCH
The church began on the Day of Pentecost, fifty days after the Passover when Jesus died and rose again. The word translated “church” comes from two Greek words that together mean “called out from the world for God.” The word church, when used to reference all believers everywhere, is synonymous with the term Body of Christ (Ephesians 1:22–23; Colossians 1:18).
The word church first appears in Matthew 16 when Jesus tells Peter, “On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (verse 18). The “rock” here is the statement Peter had made, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (verse 16). Everyone who makes that truth the foundation of his or her own life becomes a member of Jesus’ church (Acts 16:31).
Jesus’ words, “I will build my church,” were a foretelling of what was about to happen when He sent the Holy Spirit to indwell believers (John 15:26–27; 16:13).
The book of Acts details the beginning of the church and its miraculous spread through the power of the Holy Spirit. Ten days after Jesus ascended back into heaven (Acts 1:9), the Holy Spirit was poured out upon 120 of Jesus’ followers who waited and prayed (Acts 1:15; 2:1–4). The same disciples who had quaked in fear of being identified with Jesus were suddenly empowered to boldly proclaim the gospel of the risen Messiah, validated with miraculous signs and wonders (Acts 2:4, 38–41; 3:6–7; 8:7).
The church that Jesus began will continue until the day He comes for us (John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–1) and we are united with Him forever as His bride (Ephesians 5:27; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Revelation 19:7).
Our recent History
On the 4 June 2022 Mount Peniel Church, has installed our new Senior Pastor since the passing of Pastor Bishop Dr. J.E. Brooks on 29th October 2020. We have felt your prayers and support over the years. This has encouraged our spirits. The journey and mission of The Church continues.
On the 4 June we hosted an installation service or welcoming ceremony to recognise and formalise the calling of the new pastor Revd. Stephen Brooks. Today we celebrate a new chapter in the congregation’s life.
His love for the Lord was nurtured within the ministry programs at Mount Peniel Church for over four decades. Revd. Stephen`s journey to pastoral leadership comes as no surprise to those who know him well.
God is so good to us and continues to be the source of our strength.
History of Mount Peniel Church
It was in the year 1964 that the Gospel came to the home of Joshua Brooks after hearing the sermon of Lazarus from John Chapter 11. He decided to be baptised Easter Sunday in the name "Lord Jesus Christ".
The Lord gave the newly converted Joshua Brooks a powerful anointing, receiving a Commission from the Lord in a vision ‘to go into the world and preach the gospel and heal the sick.’
The new ministry started from Holmcroft Road Community Centre, before moving to Hilton Hall, Wolverhampton. The Evangelistic Ministry of the church was evident with souls been added to the church from all over Wolverhampton and Birmingham especially Handsworth, West Bromwich, Highgate, Ladywood, Saltley, Alum Rock, Wardend, Shardend, Erdington & Neachells. It was a blessing to see how souls were won for The Lord, just by being obedient to follow His direction.
Mount Peniel became a registered Charity in 1986. The Church has established an accredited outreach mission and advice centre helping people with everyday issues such as employment, training, benefits and education. The church continues to work with statutory and charitable foundations to leverage resources and help to advocate on behalf of its stakeholders.
The churches continued growth of the congregations and the raising of Ministry sons and daughters. In 1989 Pastor Brooks was Consecrated a Bishop in the International Holy Convocation in Boston, Massachusetts USA. Through Gods Direction Mount Peniel has planted and released leaders in several jurisdictions including: Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Bolton, London, Jamaica & USA.
Bishop J.E. Brooks would often state “I, Brother Brooks stand today and when one fails to recognise me as a Bishop, Overseer, Elder or Minister, they can’t take away my Brotherhood title and my anointing given to me from God alone and not man”.
Today many of the ministries established by the Work of the Holy Spirit through the Ministry of Mount Peniel stand strong today, touching thousands of souls.
May God continue to Bless the work He has given into our hands and the fruit of our labours that they will remain, in Jesus name.
Amen
